This post has been written by request from a client who has been seeing me for several years. She wanted other women to have the benefits that she has been having for the last several years from acupuncture and cupping therapy.

She started seeing me several years ago for help managing her PMS symptoms. As the years have progressed, she has begun the transition into menopause. She was telling me just today how, every time she goes to the doctor, they ask her what she is doing to manage her menopausal symptoms. She tells them “acupuncture.”

Here’s the thing. My own journey into the wonders of acupuncture started with a back injury. After a few visits, the acupuncturist suggested that she could help me with my painful periods and heavy bleeding. After 3 months, my cycles were completely different. I fully credit acupuncture, and the addition of a few herbs to my diet in preventing me from getting a hysterectomy. My doctor had been telling me since my mid-thirties that I was going to need one. Forget that! I am currently 54 and I have all my parts!

The other thing is, we all know that hormone replacement therapy comes along with a host of nasty side-effects.

A brief list includes:

  • bloating
  • bone loss
  • risk of fractures
  • breast tenderness or swelling
  • swelling in other parts of the body
  • feeling sick
  • leg cramps
  • headaches
  • indigestion
  • vaginal bleeding
  • weight gain
  • cardiovascular disease
  • cancer

In contrast, here is a list of the side-effects of acupuncture:

  • increased relaxation and stress reduction
  • better sleep
  • less pain and inflammation
  • less muscle tension
  • increased immune function

I have a whole page on my site dedicated to sharing studies whenever I have the time.

Also, here are a few studies directly related to acupuncture and menopause:,lasting%20up%20to%203%20months.
