I hear it every day. “Can acupuncture help with this condition? Or, that condition?” The answer is almost always, “Yes!”

You might wonder how I can say that. It is quite simple. Acupuncture will always help with pain, inflammation, mobility and stress. Those four symptoms are a part of almost every illness or condition people are suffering from.

If you break your leg, you will have all of those symptoms. If you have menstrual pain, you have all or most of those symptoms. If you have a headache, a stiff neck, an upset stomach, anxiety or almost any other complaint, you will have at least one of those symptoms. In some cases, ie stress, the symptom may actually have been the cause of your condition. You may have been sitting at your computer and stressing about finishing a project and the next thing you know you have a stiff neck and a headache.

So, when people ask me if I can help, I can answer without hesitation that I can.

Acupuncture works best on the soft tissues of the body, like muscles and tendons. There are some studies that show that acupuncture can help with pain in the joints, such as osteoarthritis of the knee. See this study for more info. I tell my clients that I know I can help with the pain, but I can’t change anything that has become a structural problem. For example, if the cartilage in your knee has worn away and you are “bone on bone” as they say, I can’t magically recreate the cartilage in your knee, but I can help you feel a whole lot better while you are waiting for the knee replacement surgery. I can also help significantly with your recovery.

It is a surprisingly gentle treatment that can be done for almost anyone. Give acupuncture a try today!
